I spent the day running around downtown Chicago for Taylor and Jon’s Chicago engagement session. Despite the cold, we seriously had so much fun. The windy city definitely lived up to its name, but we truly made the most of it! Things to Consider before Planning Your Chicago Engagement Session:
Firstly, before you plan your engagement session, here are a few things to consider! In order to make the most out of your Chicago couples photos, I highly encourage you to read through these tips. In Chicago, there are so many amazing locations and seasons. So, how do you decide when and where to have your photos taken?
Chicago Weather for your Session
Before booking an engagement session in Chicago, I highly recommend considering the time of year! We all know Chicago can have some beautiful weather, but it also can be windy! (hence, the name!). So, what time of year has the best weather in Chicago? Personally, I love Chicago summers! The blue water of Lake Michigan sparkles and you can wear your summer outfits for your session. Additionally, fall in Chicago is truly unmatched. If you come on a good day, the trees are changing, the sun is shining, and in my opinion, Chicago doesn’t get any better! If you have a fall engagement session in Chicago, definitely dress for the weather. It can get chilly with the lakefront wind. I personally think the winter in Chicago can be magical!
Although it can be chilly, the snow in the city makes it feel like a true hallmark movie. The snow on the streets, the buildings lit up, and all the holiday cheer brings so much joy to your session. Lastly, spring in Chicago can also be amazing!! If you time it when the trees are in bloom, Chicago will be an amazing background for your downtown engagement session! In summary, you really can’t go wrong when planning the season for your engagement session! I personally recommend choosing the season you love the most. At the end of the day, if you dress for the weather, your photos will turn out amazing! Be sure to keep in mind the sunset time before planning your session!
Downtown Chicago Photo Locations
It’s no secret Chicago has some stunning locations to take photos, right? So, how do you choose? Firstly, I recommend asking your photographer for suggestions! No one knows the best spots like a photographer! (feel free to reach out to me!! I would love to help!). To start, here are a few of my personal favorite locations in Downtown Chicago to take photos!
- North Avenue/the Lakefront
- The River Walk (especially by Trump Tower)
- Montrose Harbor
- Sir Georg Solti Garden
- Chicago Theater (a classic!)
- Navy Pier
- Lehmann Mansion
- University of Chicago
While these downtown Chicago photo locations are a good start, there are SO many amazing locations throughout downtown for your session! Be sure to think about the type of backgrounds you love the most. Additionally, consider the crowds at each location!
